Auto-DM

"Reply GUIDE and I'll send it to you" now runs itself. Turn on Auto-DM in a post's Auto-engagement section, write the message, and for the days after the post publishes, everyone who engages the way you asked gets it.

You decide what earns the message:

  • Reposts, replies, or both, and whether a person needs to do all of them or any one.
  • Only replies containing a word you pick, so "guide" in a reply counts and "nice post" doesn't.
  • Must follow you, if the message is for followers only.

Personalise it with {first_name}, {name} or {username}, and choose how long it runs, from one day to seven.

What to expect

Each person is messaged once, from the account the post went out on. Someone who replies today and reposts tomorrow still gets their message when they qualify. People who don't accept DMs from you are skipped, and each account sends at most 250 a day, so a busy post spreads its messages over several days rather than looking like spam.

A published post shows how its Auto-DM is doing, with how many were sent and how many are waiting to qualify. You can pause, resume or stop it from there.

Where it works

Auto-DM works on Bluesky and Mastodon today. X will follow once X approves us for direct messages.

If you connected Bluesky before today, reconnect it once from Settings to allow direct messages. Mastodon needs nothing extra.

From the API

Everything above is in the API, the SDK (orbit.autoDms), the CLI (orbitwrite autodm) and the MCP server, including starting an Auto-DM on a post that has already gone out.
