Sometimes the right reply is a GIF. Orbitwrite now has a GIPHY picker built in.
Where you'll find it
- The composer. Every post in a thread has a GIF button in its toolbar, next to images and polls. The picker opens on GIPHY's trending feed, and searching filters as you type.
- Auto-engagement. An auto-reply can carry a GIF, so the follow-up you schedule under your own post doesn't have to be plain text.
- The Inbox. The reply toolbar has the same button, for answering a conversation with a GIF.
How it publishes
A picked GIF attaches like any other media item, and GIPHY's description comes along as alt text. Bluesky gets the GIF as an external embed rather than an upload, so it actually animates instead of arriving as a flattened still.
The button only appears for accounts on networks that can take a GIF, which today means X, Bluesky, Mastodon, and Threads. Write to a mix of accounts and the composer works out who gets what, the same as it does for every other media rule.
