# Images, video and documents

> Attach photos, videos, GIFs and PDFs, add alt text, crop, and pick a video's cover.

## Add media

Drag files onto the editor, paste an image, or use **Add media** in the toolbar. Images and videos upload in the
background while you keep writing; a video shows **Processing…** while it's prepared for publishing.

Each network has its own limits on how many files, how large, how long and what shape. The composer checks every file
against every channel the post is going to, while you write, and lists anything a network won't take under
**Issues**. The [platform pages](https://orbitwrite.com/docs/platforms) have each network's numbers.

| You want to post | Use |
| ---------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Photos | Up to 4 on X, Bluesky and Mastodon; up to 10 on Instagram, Threads, Facebook, Discord, Slack and Telegram; up to 9 on LinkedIn. |
| A video | One per post on most networks, and not mixed with images. |
| A GIF | **Add GIF** searches GIPHY. On most networks a GIF can't share a post with other media. |
| A PDF | **Add document** on LinkedIn, shown as a swipeable carousel. A document replaces any other attachments. |

## Alt text

Click an image to open it, then write a description under **Describe this image for people who can't see it**.
Screen readers read it aloud, and most networks show it to people who ask. Choose the sparkle button beside it to have Orb write a
first draft from the image.

Alt text is sent to every network that supports it: X, Bluesky, Mastodon, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads and others.
The [post score](https://orbitwrite.com/docs/guides/composer/post-score) reminds you when an image has none.

## Cropping

Instagram only takes images between 4:5 portrait and 1.91:1 landscape, and crops every slide of a carousel to the
shape of the first. When an image doesn't fit, the composer offers **Crop to fit**, or **Crop all to fit** for a
carousel. You can adjust each crop before you publish.

## Video covers

The cover is the frame people see before they press play.

- **Instagram Reels**: pick a frame from the video, or upload your own JPEG, PNG or WebP image.
- **TikTok**: pick a frame from the video.
- **Pinterest**: pick a frame, or upload an image.

Open the video and choose **Cover frame** or **Custom image**. The cover can change until the post goes out. Other
networks don't let any app set a cover, so they show their own default.

## Tagging people on Instagram

Open a photo and choose **Tag people**, then click where each person appears and enter their Instagram username.
Tags show on the photo and on each person's **Tagged** tab. Only public accounts can be tagged.

For a video, enter the usernames of the people in it. **Collaborators** invites up to three accounts to co-author the
post, so it appears on their profiles too.

## AI-generated labels

Where a network has a label for AI-generated content, the composer offers a switch for it:

| Network | Label |
| --------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Instagram | "AI info" (not on Stories) |
| TikTok | "Creator labeled as AI-generated", which can't be removed after publishing |
| YouTube | "Altered or synthetic content", for realistic video made or changed with AI |
| X | "Made with AI", on posts with media |
| Pinterest | "AI modified" |

## Video requirements worth knowing

- **TikTok and Instagram** refuse videos under 23 frames per second, which catches some screen recordings. Re-export
  at 24 or 30 fps.
- **YouTube** posts are videos. Shorts must be vertical and short; see [YouTube](https://orbitwrite.com/docs/platforms/youtube).
- **Instagram Stories** don't publish text: the caption is ignored.

## Storage

Uploads count toward your plan's media storage. See [Plans and billing](https://orbitwrite.com/docs/guides/workspace/billing).
