# Links

> Link previews, where links go on each network, and tracking parameters for your analytics.

## Link previews

Paste a link into a post and the composer fetches its preview card: the title, description and image the network
will show. Choose **Remove link preview** to post the link without a card. LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Threads, Bluesky,
Mastodon, Discord, Slack and Telegram show cards; Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest don't.

The [post score](https://orbitwrite.com/docs/guides/composer/post-score) flags a link whose card has no image.

## Where to put the link

Some networks show posts with outside links to fewer people.

- **X**: a link in the post itself costs reach. When the first post of a thread carries a link, the composer offers
**Move link to reply**, which moves it into a reply under the post. **Move link here** puts it back.
- **LinkedIn**: posts with outside links are shown less. Many teams put the link in the first comment instead, using
[auto-engagement](https://orbitwrite.com/docs/guides/grow/auto-engagement) to post it the moment the post goes live.
- **Instagram and TikTok**: links in captions aren't clickable. Use your [link in bio](https://orbitwrite.com/docs/guides/grow/link-in-bio).

## Link tracking

Link tracking adds analytics parameters to every link when a post publishes, so your web analytics can tell which
network and campaign a visit came from. Your drafts keep the link as you typed it; only the published copy is tagged.

> **Note:** Link tracking is included on the Pro and Advanced plans.

Set it up under **Settings → Link tracking**:

1. Turn on **Append tracking parameters**.
2. Add the **Parameters**, in order. Values can use two placeholders:
   - `{{platform}}` becomes the network: `twitter`, `linkedin` (profiles and pages alike), `instagram`, `bluesky` and so
     on.
   - `{{campaign}}` becomes the post's [campaign](https://orbitwrite.com/docs/guides/grow/campaigns). A parameter that uses it is left off posts
     that have no campaign.
   For Google Analytics, that's `utm_source={{platform}}`, `utm_medium=social`, `utm_campaign={{campaign}}`. For Matomo,
   `pk_source`, `pk_medium` and `pk_campaign`.
3. Optionally list **Domains to tag**. Only links to those domains (and their subdomains) are tagged; leave it empty to
   tag every link.

Parameters already on a link are never overwritten, so a link you typed with `?utm_campaign=launch` keeps it.

### Per-channel settings

Each channel can **Use workspace settings**, be **Off for this channel**, or use **Custom parameters** of its own. Set
it on the channel's page under **Settings → Channels**.
