# Agent skill

> Teach Claude Code, Cursor and other coding agents how Orbitwrite works.

The Orbitwrite skill is a public, MIT-licensed bundle of instructions and reference that coding agents load when you
ask them to do something with Orbitwrite. It lives at [github.com/orbitwrite/skills](https://github.com/orbitwrite/skills).

## Install

**Any agent**

```bash
npx skills add orbitwrite/skills
```

**Claude Code plugin**

```text
/plugin marketplace add orbitwrite/skills
/plugin install orbitwrite@orbitwrite
```

The plugin also registers the [MCP server](https://orbitwrite.com/docs/developers/mcp), reading your key from `ORBITWRITE_API_KEY`.

## What's in it

- **SKILL.md**: setup, the concepts an agent needs (workspaces, channels, composer groups, times), recipes and rules.
- **References**, rebuilt from this codebase whenever the product changes: one file per API area, the MCP tool list,
  the permissions, and every network's rules.
- **scripts/api.mjs**: a small HTTP caller with the three-step media upload built in, for agents with a shell but no
  MCP client.

Because the references are generated from the same sources as these docs, an agent reading them can't be working from
a stale picture of the API.
